Acupuncture Treatment
-
Your first visit starts with a conversation about your health history and what you are hoping to get out of treatment, followed by your first treatment in the same session. Your initial consultation will typically be 90min with follow-up appointments being 60min.
-
Most people feel very little, often described as a light tap or a brief dull ache as the needle is inserted, settling quickly. Everyone's sensitivity is different, and Pavlina adjusts her approach to what feels comfortable for you.
-
The clearest, best evidenced use of acupuncture is for temporary relief from certain types of pain, including headaches and migraine, back and neck pain, jaw (TMJ) pain, and osteoarthritis knee pain. Many people also use it for general wellbeing and stress related tension. If you have a specific health concern not listed here, it is best to raise it with Pavlina directly before booking, so she can give you an honest view on whether acupuncture is likely to help.
Chinese Herbal Medicine
-
Chinese herbal medicine uses combinations of herbs, usually taken as a tea or as a concentrated herbal powder dissolved in water, prescribed and adjusted for you individually over the course of treatment.
-
This varies by individual and by the type of concern being addressed, and Pavlina will talk you through what to expect for your particular situation at your consultation, with regular reviews to adjust your prescription as needed.
-
Herbs can interact with some medications and are not suitable for everyone, including during pregnancy or alongside certain health conditions. Pavlina reviews your full medical history and current medications before prescribing anything, and it is worth mentioning Chinese herbal medicine to your GP if you are on prescribed medication.
-
Pavlina sources herbs through the RCHM's approved supplier scheme. Suppliers in this scheme undergo annual audits by pharmaceutical auditors, follow CITES rules protecting endangered species, and operate to a no-animal-products standard.
