Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
E - Newsletter: December 2021

Wishing you all a wonderful Christmas and Happy New Year.

We are now closed until the New Year taking this time to  spend with family and hopefully to enjoy some great outdoors.
We will be checking emails and picking up messages but our response times will be slower. The High Trees Clinic reception team will be available throughout to accept bookings and answer any queries related to my Dore clinic.

Please note my River Bank clinic is quite busy and we are currently taking bookings for the week commencing 17 January (please see my indicative working schedule below).

Hello, and welcome to our December 2021 newsletter
...it has been a while and much has changed ... all good stuff, of course  :-)

Here are some headlines...
  • We remain in Phase 2 - Careful Practice: this means all close contact or facial procedures are permitted. Please read below about the robust safety measures in place to support a safe treatment experience.
  • Chinese Herbal Medicine consultations are now available in person at my River Bank Clinic, or online nationwide. One of our Herbs patients lives in Northern Ireland!
  • I am now a member of Register of Chinese Herbal Medicine, this means even more health insurance companies cover the cost of your treatment.
  • We now accept contactless payments and we hear you like this super convenient way to pay for your treatment.
  • We now operate a scheduling diary with reminder appointment emails.

-Introducing Chinese Herbal Medicine-
- About Chinese Herbal Medicine -
Chinese Herbal Medicine is successfully and frequently used in the treatment of long-term conditions which are inadequately managed by conventional biomedicine - this has been termed the "effectiveness gap".

Herbal medicine may be used autonomously or to support biomedical treatment and counteract the side-effects of conventional drug therapy, for example the thinning of the skin and loss of elasticity associated with prolonged use of topical steroids in conventional management of dermatological conditions such as eczema, psoriasis, acne and rosacea.

Chinese Herbal Medicine is a highly organised and rigorous scholastic discipline concerned with the symptomatic relief of diseases.

River Bank Clinic patients with the following conditions are currently using Chinese Herbal Medicine to support their treatment goals and improve their quality of life: eczema, psoriasis, acne vulgaris, rosacea, joint pain, post viral recovery, PMS symptom management, hot flushes, sleep disturbances, headache, fatigue, digestive complaints and anxiety.

- Professional Member of RCHM -
I am proud to be a member of Register of Chinese Herbal Medicine, as this provides extra re-assurance of competency and fitness to practice for my patients.
This means I am qualified to prescribe bespoke individual herbal prescriptions (as opposed to selling/issuing off the shelf patented formulas).
This means I am trained to consider herb-drug interactions.
This means I have studied Chinese Medicine for a minimum of 5 years.

Furthermore as I am a member of RCHM and compliant with UK prescribing legislation, my herbal prescriptions are:
  • easy to take (dispensed as instant coffee like granules)
  • wholly plant based (no animals or minerals)
  • sensitive to intensive farming and soil exploitation practices (no endangered plant species)
  • always vegetarian
  • ... and often dispensed to vegan standards
Chinese Herbal Medicine consultations are conveniently available in person or online. These can be added to your acupuncture treatment plan at better value or are often sought as a stand alone modality.

- Master of Science in Chinese Herbal Medicine -
I am so passionate about the curative effects of this wonderful discipline, that I am furthering my knowledge by studying for my Masters. I am currently undertaking primary research by conducting an expert practitioner consensus study on supporting prostate cancer patients in the UK. This is quite fast paced and time consuming. The outcome of my research will hopefully aim to improve herbal practitioner knowledge whilst enriching my own learning as I now know a lot about the prostate cancer and conventional treatment pathways in the UK!

-Festive Read: Gold, Frankincense and Myrrh
- the herbalist's perspective-

Chinese Herbal Medicine is a wonderful treatment modality supporting you from within and addressing the underlying causes of disorders, whilst seeking to relieve manifesting symptoms.
If you have any questions or are wondering if Herbal Medicine is for you, I would be delighted to share.

And on that note, at this time of year, have you ever wondered about the medicinal and curative properties of Frankincense and Myrrh, arguably the best known pair of herbal materials known to all mankind? If so, have a read about what I managed to find out in my festive blog.

Merry Christmas
- Dr.Hauschka Skin Care -
-We Continue to Invest in Your Wellbeing

Dr.Hauschka Skin Care products are 100% certified natural cosmetics.  Almost every one of my patients benefits from the use of Dr.Hauschka products, either via the massage oils that are used to palpate areas of disorder, or the dermatology range used in facial acupuncture treatments.
All Dr Hauschka products are available to purchase for my patients directly from our clinic. With John Lewis closed, I am now the only Sheffield stockist of these fantastic German natural products. As this is not my main business, my sole motivation here is to secure the product availability for the treatments I provide by placing regular orders with Dr Hauschka. Hence my Dr. Hauschka prices are excellent value.  Please feel free to enquire about Dr Hauschka products in my clinic and ask about which testers I have to try.

- We Remain a Covid-19 Secure Practice -

We have taken the following steps in order to be Covid-19 secure.  The key steps were initially introduced on 15 June 2020 to safely provide an 'urgent care only' practice. Since then some minor tweaks have been introduced to reflect current best practice.

Nevertheless, most of our early adaptions still remain in place to keep you as safe as possible.

Key Steps Taken

1. Treatment Spacing
The clinic is not running to full capacity with appointments having extra spacing between them. This will allow for additional room cleaning and ventilation time and prevent patient crossover.  Inevitably this means that there are less appointment slots available. For your convenience extra morning slots and twilight appointments were introduced starting at 8:30am and finishing at 8:30pm.

2. Soft Furnishings and Surfaces
All contact clinic surfaces at River Bank Integrative Health have been ‘decluttered’, ready for wipe down cleaning and disinfection between the treatments. Rest assured, just like before, all pillowcases and towels are changed after each patient. We already followed good infection control measures prior to Covid-19 pandemic.

3. Soap & Disinfectant
As has always been the case, I wash my hands prior to any physical contact and again immediately after. I will also ask patients to wash their hands upon arrival.

4. Opening Doors
Please allow me to open all doors for you on arrival (and exit) at River Bank Integrative Health. Please make use of the banister on your way up/down as all touch areas including door handles and the banister are disinfected between patients.

5. Masks, PPE, Air Purification
I will be wearing appropriate PPE (face mask or respirator) on your arrival and throughout your treatment. In addition to face mask I may also wear a face shield or goggles when appropriate. You may wear your own mask, or River Bank Integrative Health can provide one if you like.
On occasions, We acknoweldge that it is not practicable for you to wear a face mask for instance when facial procedures are carried out.
The air purifier used in the clinic has multi-stage active filtration system and removes most common airborne allergens, particles, bacteria and viruses  including those aerosols which may contain respiratory viruses.

6. Cleaning
We have robust cleaning procedures in place and we increased the time between patients for thorough room cleaning and ventilation. The clinic is fully stocked with hand sanitiser, paper towels, soap, disinfectants, wipes and all other PPE equipment.

7. Toilet Facilities
Our toilet facilities remain open. For your convenience 75% alcohol disinfectant wipes are provided, for those who do use our facilities. Please note, these wipes are not flushable and need to be disposed off in the bin provided.

8. Payment
Contactless payment is available. Other forms of payment such as cash or bank transfer can be accommodated too. We request where possible, that you have the correct change.

Please be assured that it is absolutely fine to cancel and reschedule your appointment when you are not feeling your best.
